About The Farm
Sandhill Tree Farm’s history dates back to August 10, 1837 when Daniel Wells, Jr. from Milwaukee and Gurdon Hubbard from Chicago received a U.S. Government land patent for the land that now comprises our modern-day parcel. In 1873, the northern part of the farm was owned by Wilhelm Ferdinand Opitz, a German immigrant who arrived in the United States in 1839. Along with Adolph Zimmermann, he co-founded the Mequon Brewery, which is now recognized as Foxtown Brewery.
The New Chapter of Timeless Elegance
After serving as an agricultural farm for nearly a century, the land transitioned into a new purpose, becoming Sandhill Tree Farm. In November 2020, the Ness family acquired the farm. They are excited to continue its rich history by cultivating high-quality Christmas trees in Southeast Wisconsin.
Built in the early 1900s, and recently reimagined, the barn venue features a south facing viewing deck, outdoor terraced space, multiple bar options, glamorous bathrooms, catering kitchen, bridesβ room and decorative interior and exterior lighting. Perfect for weddings and special events, it features lush Christmas tree rows, a spring-fed pond, manicured pastures, and scenic river views.
Sustainable Traditions, Seasonal Magic
With approximately half of the 75-acre property dedicated to growing Fraser Firs, Sandhill Tree Farm offers a choose-and-cut Christmas tree experience, cherished by many as a holiday tradition. Each tree cut from the field is replanted in the spring, emphasizing the eco-friendly nature of real trees, which are 100% biodegradable and recyclable. Come visit the farm and explore our tree fields to choose your very own “real” Christmas tree.
